‘Who’s Got The Look?’ Part 9

The last cards of Season 2! You can click here for Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5 , Part 6Part 7 & Part 8 to catch up with where we’ve been.

S02E21

As You Wish

We’ve got to address the picture first. If you’ve been watching Season 3 of The Goldbergs (and why wouldn’t you be?) then you have come across the video of Adam and his Jams. Check out the logo on his shorts here – that’s right: Jams! Giving Bev a big hug and making a funny face. A lot of love in this family.

In this episode Adam takes up fencing for only one reason: he wants to re-enact the swordfighting scene from The Princess Bride. The cardboard from paper towel rolls isn’t quite holding up so Adam goes in for the real thing. Murray seizes on this opportunity, thinking that Adam is finally going to become an athlete. But once Adam’s manipulative ways are revealed he either has to give up his lances or keep fencing to the pain.

On the other side of the house Bev plays matchmaker with Miss Cinoman & Coach Mellor. We hope this continues on into season 3 because even though Barry & Erica were vehemently against it the comedic possibilities are endless!

S02E22

Dance Party USA

After this episode aired we asked Adam who was in this picture. He told us it was a picture of his wife when she was younger. Furthermore he said that he bases a lot of 9th grade Erica on his wife’s childhood.

In this episode we see Erica transform from a caterpillar to a beautiful butterfly only to be changed (temporarily) back to a caterpillar again. Not even Coach Mellor’s “uggo speech” can cheer her up. Be amazed as Barry’s pink eye travels from kaleidoscope to pillow to Erica & watch her slowly descend into madness. Hilarious!

Adam find out Pops really isn’t lucky and winds up gambling everything away to Garry Ball. Turns out, the Ball family is really lucky. When Pops loses his metaphorical shirt (and real-a-phorical jacket) to the principal it’s up to Beverly to figure out how to fix this mess so her baby isn’t sad for too long.

S02E23

Bill/Murray

This has to be Bill Lewis in front of his car, right? How else could it relate to the episode?

When we last left Lainey’s dad, he had forbidden her to see Barry again. The fact that he’s a Cowboys fan in Eagles territory may have had something to do with it. When their kids are caught canoodling in the janitor’s closet the men are brought together in the principal’s office and find a common enemy: a Giants fan! Their relationship grows from there.

Meanwhile Adam bites off more than he can chew by helping Erica shoot a music video for her application to Julliard. Things don’t go quite as planned when Dave Kim brings over a snake and Beverly attempts to float Garfield on a stick into the shot (must be seen to be believed).

S02E24

Goldbergs Feel Hard

The happiest/saddest finale in recent memory (though we hear a sad part may eventually get a run for its money). An in-focus Adam and an out-of-focus Beverly close out the season’s vanity cards.

Adam is intent on telling Dana that he loves her. This rubs off on Barry and he inadvertently tells Lainey that he loves her. She immediately starts feeling uncomfortable around him. In order to cover up for that mistake he becomes the school mascot to be closer to her while she cheerleads.

Adam, on the other hand, is getting mixed signals from everyone and decides to not tell Dana that he loves her which makes things awkward. After seeing Lainey finally profess her love for Barry, Adam heads to Dana’s house to tell her that he loves her. She says she loves him too, but there’s a twist – her family is moving to Seattle for the summer and possibly for good! If that wasn’t enough, Erica leaves on a jetplane for music camp which also leaves everyone teary-eyed.

Thankfully Season 3 has come along to cheer us up, but what will happen to all of these unresolved plotlines? And can any answers be found in the new vanity cards? Stay tuned!

‘Who’s Got The Look?’ Part 8

We’re almost to the end of Season Two & ready to start Season 3 of The Goldbergs! You can click here for Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5 , Part 6 & Part 7 to catch up with where we’ve been. You can also see all of the winners from the 2015 Goldies right here!

S02E16

The Lost Boy

This picture could have also been used for The Most Handsome Boy on the Planet because Barry is strutting his model stuff here.

The Lost Boy is about Adam getting lost inside Veteran’s Stadium and spending the whole day looking for his Dad. While there are some funny situations that occur, the reunion scene in the parking lot at the end was my #1 Tearjerker Moment of Season 2 (it barely lost out to Dana telling Adam she’s moving away in Goldbergs Feel Hard in the Goldies this year). The B-side has to do with Beverly manipulating her older children to spend time with her. Heard it all before? Not like this one. At least see it for the harlequin clown riding a unicorn high-fiving a dolphin!

S02E17

The Adam Bomb

This *also* would have been a good place to put the Barry picture, since it could be payback for Adam’s picture which is seared into the minds of so many impressionable viewers. Instead we get Charles Barkley and we’re not sure who…is it Dave Sirota? The episode states that Sirota’s dad works as a team doctor for the 76ers so he was able to score Barry one of Barkley’s shoes.

The episode establishes that there is always a war going on between Adam & Barry. They are mostly polar opposites in terms of likes & abilities. When an April Fool’s joke goes awry the stakes get raised ever higher until Barry drops the Adam Bomb in the form of an embarrassing photo Beverly made him take when he was younger. Elsewhere Murray learns that Erica wants to postpone college in lieu of a promising singing career. Tiffany shows up at the mall and “Riki Gold” knows that’s her ticket to stardom. Murray, always the dream smusher, switches gears and becomes the dream pusher so Beverly is thrust into the unfamiliar role of having to tone down her child’s dream.

S02E18

I Drank The Mold

We want to say that this is Bev with Garry Ball, but it looks much more like a young Eric.

In this episode Erica & Barry are tasked with writing the greatest song ever (in order to get a new CD player) and come pretty close with Love Ninja! Highbrow lyrics and Barry’s vicious rap interlude send the song into the stratosphere! But the primary story is about Adam’s birthday where the boys are starting to get a little too old for a thing like a sleepover. Principal’s son Garry Ball brings over one of his dad’s homebrewed craft beers and it ends up making everyone sick. It hadn’t fermented, so it was just the mold. Major fallout ensues once the parents get a hold of this information.

Also of note, this episode was written by friend of the Goldnerds: Aaron Kaczander (who was a guest on our podcast this summer)!

S02E19

La Biblioteca es Libros

We like to imagine that Barry is stressing out over checking the want ads for a job while Murray is just waiting to berate him further.

Adam is the one who spouts the titular line in an attempt to pass his Spanish class. It’s not going so well so Bev intervenes in a way that is unfair at best and most likely illegal – bribing the teacher for good grades. Meanwhile Barry gets his first job and earns Murray’s respect overlooking the fact that Erica has been responsible and had a job of her own for ages.

S02E20

Just Say No

Barry is wearing the same shirt as in the previous vanity card, but it relates even more to this episode. Dumb Doug of the Meadowbrook Mafia (the bizarro JTP) claims Brandeis early admission during his introduction. It’s also lacrosse shirt which shows Barry’s athletic prowess in addition to his Brandeis smarts (the look on his face notwithstanding).

In this episode Erica wants her mom to get more politically involved rather than just voting for ‘Murray’s picks’ during every election cycle. Her plan backfires when Beverly gets hooked on Nancy Reagan’s style and her anti-drug “Just Say No” campaign. The uneasiness culminates in the 30-minute skit written by Bev herself wherein she plays “Spider, the drug pusher” attempting to lure an unsuspecting teen (played by Murray) into her web of drugs.

Across town the Meadowbrook Mafia has challenged the JTP’s turf and won. Barry wants to prove he’s the ultimate athlete so he co-opts Adam into making an American Gladiator audition tape. Since Adam doesn’t appreciate Barry’s treatment of him the tape turns into an entry for America’s Funniest Home Videos. Hilarity ensues.

‘Who’s Got The Look?’ Part 7

Part 7 dives deeper into the vanity cards of Season Two of The Goldbergs! You can click here for Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4Part 5 & Part 6 to catch up with where we’ve been. But before you go any further, VOTE VOTE VOTE for The Goldies!!

S02E11

The Darryl Dawkins Dance

Spoiler Alert: This episode culminates in Barry & Lainey finally becoming a ‘thing’! Prior to that Beverly sets Barry up with a similar version of herself who Erica, in turn, sets up with a very Murray-like young man (played by Jeff Garlin’s real son). Back at the homestead Adam tries to change the ending to the Transformers movie and comes to grips with the fact that Pops might not be around forever.

In the photo Bev & Murray are with Adam (or is it Barry) in the mountains somewhere. Was there a dance up there? Is there a Transformers connection? What does this have to do with the episode?!?!?

S02E12

Cowboy Country

Adam has real feelings for Dana that Beverly just can’t get behind. In an attempt to show how grown up his love is Adam scales the water tower to spray paint the infamous message – “Adam ♥ Dan” – before running out of paint. Lainey’s dad, Bill Lewis, turns out to be a Cowboys Fan much to the Goldberg men’s chagrin. But forbidden love is the best kind and can’t keep our two teen sweethearts apart for long.

In the photo we return to Beverly posing in her famous “perfetto” shirt with Adam and Pops (possibly) in the background.

s02e13

Van People

Adam hates the fact that he was voted nicest guy in the yearbook when he was really going for funniest (Best Hair on a Man went to Dave Kim, of course), so he goes to Pops on advice for how to spice up his comedy act. As is often the case, the advice of the sage is misinterpreted and lands Adam in hot water with the various butts of his various jokes. Barry & Erica meanwhile want to move out from under Murray’s heinous rules & on their own into a van down by the garage. The blistering cold plus spilled tuna water may be enough to get Barry back inside, however.

Pops and Adam are shown here in a great example of their wonderful friendship. Little known fact, Adam won the Philadelphia Young Playwrights competition with a play inspired by Pops called Dr. Pickup that he wrote when he was only 15!

S02E14

Barry Goldberg’s Day Off

What more can we say about this episode other than: WATCH IT OVER & OVER

Pictured is Barry in the most 80’s coolness imaginable – jean jacket with popped collar.

S02E15

Happy Mom, Happy Life

Beverly becomes grand-smother to Leia DeLorean Goldberg only to lose her in a freak doll-knapping-by-dog accident. The replacement she comes up with is nothing short of terrifying and her involvement puts a strain on Adam & Dana’s relationship. Elsewhere Erica joins the JTP to get back at Barry for stealing her best friend away.

Look at that smile. Beverly is a happy mom! How could Adam *not* have a happy life?!

‘Who’s Got The Look?’ Part 6

Part 6 continues through Season Two of The Goldbergs! You can click here for Part 1Part 2Part 3Part 4, and Part 5 to catch up with where we’ve been. But before you go any further, VOTE VOTE VOTE for The Goldies!!

S02E06

Big Baby Ball

The point of this episode is to show how awful gym class was in middle school if you weren’t blessed with the skills of an athlete. We know the feeling all too well. Bev does take things a little too far with Coach Mellor but it did make for a great scene at the furniture store. Back at the house Barry is constantly losing to Erica – even in a game of his own design: Barry-Nopoly. Can he eke out a win in Junior Trivial Pursuit?

We cannot verify whether or not this person is a member of the Goldberg family. Clearly he has Adam’s “sports aren’t your sport” skills but who is this awkward quarterback, really?

EDIT: Straight from Bev (@goldilocks405) herself, “That’s Barry throwing the ball”

S02E07

A Goldberg Thanksgiving

We hope this tradition never ends. Uncle Marvin (Dan Fogler) visiting at Thanksgiving is the gift that keeps on giving! The Wizard and the Power Glove make awesome appearances here, as does an aerobics class with Beverly & Erica. When a pulled vajingo occurs, you know this Thanksgiving won’t be forgotten any time soon.

Pictured are the Goldberg boys. Barry is trying to look too cool for this photo or possibly looking at the wrong camera. Murray chooses to bless his oldest & youngest with a father’s touch.

S02E08

I Rode A Hoverboard

Many burning questions are answered in this episode, such as: Can one episode start with George Michael and end with Big Tasty Pork? What won’t Beverly put cheese on? Does Dave Kim have a family? Were hoverboards real, Bob??

In the picture we see the friendship that has stood the test of time: Emmy, Adam & some dog.

S02E09

The Most Handsome Boy On The Planet

Barry is approached in the mall by a “talent scout” who convinces Barry to become a model. Beverly is completely on board because she is convinces of her boy’s deliciousness. Erica knows it’s a scam and Barry has second thoughts once Bev jumps in on some photos. We also get to find out that Murray’s father is STILL ALIVE and LIVES NEARBY!!! What the…??

After this show aired, Adam said that these were actual glamour shots of one of the writers or other crew member. A brave writer or other crew member.

S02E10DannyDonnieJoeyJonJordan

Let’s cut right to the chase – the music video and re-creation at the end of the episode is completely epic. [Kudos to Chad Kremp for finding this and getting it back to Adam in time for the episode.] After the boys find Erica’s New Kids on the Block stuff in the garage and try to use it to their embarrassing advantage, they find out their teasing has actually turned them into fans of the band!

Going out on a limb here and saying that this picture has nothing to do with NKOTB. Most likely drawn by a toddler who loves his/her ‘babby’, this doodle appears to show a young girl with pink bow in her hair. Anyone care to comment?

Part 5 begins our trek through Season Two of The Goldbergs! You can click here for Part 1Part 2Part 3 and here for Part 4 to catch up with Season One.

Love Is A Mix Tape
Love Is A Mix Tape

Love Is A Mix Tape

Much like it is right now, last summer was an eternity waiting for new episodes of The Goldbergs. When it finally returned we found that the show didn’t miss a beat! Adam wants to declare is love for Dana in a way only the 80’s & 90’s knew how – make a mix tape of the most meaningful songs to woo her. Unfortunately Beverly intercepts the tape and assumes it’s for her. And then things get really awkward from there…

The other siblings conspire to get Barry a fake ID so he can make the beer run for the next party. Erica already has one emblazoned with the name “Sophia Lopez” and when Barry can’t think of a name, one is chosen for him: Carlos Del Monaco!

The picture above appears to be the real Barry’s fake ID. Unless he was born a few years earlier and didn’t live the family in Jenkintown, I think it’s safe to say this driver’s license is not up to snuff.

Friend of the Goldnerds – Susan Cinoman – pitched the main story of this episode to Adam and he liked it so much he made it into an episode! You can read about Susan’s experience here and listen to our exclusive interview with Susan on Episode 10 of The Goldnerds Podcast.

In the episode Adam doesn’t get the part he wants in the school play which leads to a showdown between “blonde monster” Bev and drama teacher Ms. Cinoman. Meanwhile Barry is upset at Murray for leaving sporting events too early so Murray tries to find someone else to go with him. It doesn’t work out so well. But we do find out that Vic is from Edmonton. Oh, Canada!

Pictured above is the argyled Mur-man with young Adam.

The Facts of Bleeping Life
The Facts of Bleeping Life

The Facts of Bleeping Life

“It sounds like nobody’s going to take it.” So says Pops upon hearing Barry & Adam’s Twisted Sister cover band. Realizing they need a gig, Barry proposes they play at Bev & Murray’s upcoming wedding vow renewals. Why renew? Well because Chuck & Diana had a wedding that was a little more majestic & regal than the Goldbergs’. Also vying for band superstardom is the Gal Pals – consisting of Lainey & Erica and a lot more talent. When Bev finds out Murray faked his vows she calls the whole thing off. Will they “sha la la la” happily ever after? Watch to find out!

The post-story-pre-credits scene showed Adam and Barry rocking out to something. Barry is playing bass in the photo above.

Shall We Play A Game?
Shall We Play A Game?

Shall We Play A Game?

In this episode the JTP arrive on the scene and your life will never be the same. After Barry & his crew see War Games they’re convinced that Adam and his computer can hack into the school and change their grades. Adam realizes this is much harder than it seems in a major motion picture, so he fakes out the crew so he can join their “cool” ranks. Also trying to be cool is Beverly who finds out that Erica & her friends hang out with one of the other moms who is super cool! The Bevernator tries to liven things up with her typical amount of success.

We’re going to go out on a limb and say that this picture is of Adam’s wife when she was a little girl. She definitely shows up later but this one has an air of mystery.

Family Takes Care of Beverly
Family Takes Care of Beverly

Family Takes Care of Beverly

It’s Halloween! In an attempt to break a non-existent Abba Zabba record Barry eats himself into the hospital with a blocked bowel. Before this happens, though, Barry invokes Bushido Code on Erica for saving her life by knocking a soda out of her hands after she ate some Pop Rocks. He wants her to talk him up to Lainey, but things backfire and the Abba Zabba takes hold of his insides.

Across town Pops is evicted from his apartment after burning it down during a Halloween party. Bev offers up the attic and jumps at the chance to have all of her boys under one roof. Even though Pops wouldn’t mind going to live at “Shady Willows” Bev is concerned her worst nightmare will come true – that everyone will leave her once they get older.

Adam & Beverly are pictured, and Adam’s reassuring hand says “I’ll never leave you….until I’m old enough, that is!”

The President's Fitness Test
The President’s Fitness Test

The President’s Fitness Test

An amazing episode where we find out that Adam is not so skilled in the physical department, but he was scrumptious in Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. This is also the first time we see Coach Mellor & Beverly square off. Erica plays a somewhat vicious prank on Barry involving the French language & wetting the bed.

The picture shows Adam with his pen pal, Fanny, to whom this episode is dedicated.

You're Not Invited
You’re Not Invited

You’re Not Invited

Barry convinces Adam to host a “no parents allowed” birthday party so that Adam can get his first kiss. Shockingly this backfires when Barry has to drink a ton of milk before they can all play Spin the Bottle. 7 Minutes in Heaven doesn’t exactly go as it did in Teen Wolf either when Bev appears in the closet with Adam & Dana. Thankfully Adam’s original plan of Laser Tag is exactly what the doctor ordered and when Adam sacrifices himself to Dave Kim’s blast in order to save Dana he gets that liplock after all.

The beautiful Bert & Ernie cake shown above was spoofed in the episode when Bev’s Bert winds up looking like Sloth from The Goonies. I only see 4 lit candles on the cake which would place this on April 2, 1980!

The Age of Darkness
The Age of Darkness

The Age of Darkness

Erica dates Drew Kremp and is the happiest she’s ever been. When she is subsequently dumped by him she plunges into the titular darkness with Bev & Murray wondering how to pull her out of it. On the other side of the house Barry is nursing an arcade addiction to the new Punch Out game – going so far as to sell Adam’s Millennium Falcon to fund his habit.

Pictured are besties Beverly Goldberg and Virginia Kremp. Since both women had all boys I’m fairly certain none of them dated each other and subsequently broke up. I wonder how the real Eric & Drew feel about this plotline…

A Wrestler Named Goldberg
A Wrestler Named Goldberg

A Wrestler Named Goldberg

The episode that spawned a movement (click here for our first post)! The two super-strong plotlines are: Adam convinces Erica (secretly a huge Star Wars fan) to take him to wait in line for the release of Return of the Jedi; and Barry secretly joins the wrestling team (mostly to impress Lexy Bloom) but pretends to join the school play (“Annie”) to hide the truth from Beverly. If Thomas Lennon (Lt. Dangle) on a tauntaun wasn’t enough hilarity, the scene on the wrestling mat between Barry & Bev is one for the ages!

Special episode dedication to the Ultimate Warrior (who had recently passed away before this aired).

We have no idea who/what Asti Pasti *heart*243*heart* is or what the guitar significance is in relation to this episode. Perhaps an Anti-Pasti cover band? HELP

Livin' On A Prayer
Livin’ On A Prayer

Livin’ On A Prayer

The Season One finale cemented Big Tasty in our hearts with an EPIC house party while the parents were away. With one last chance to impress Lexy Bloom (Halloween & wrestling didn’t turn out so well) Barry decides an end-of-the-year spectacular is called for. When only 2 dudes show up (if only the JTP was in the mix this season!) Erica is urged by Pops to have pity on Barry and call a few friends. Things quickly get out of hand (pizza on the record player? a sweater party? Gustav?) culminating with Lainey kissing Barry twice ostensibly to “make Lexy jealous.” Best.Night.Ever.

Why were the parents away? Well it turns out there’s more to Murray that we ever knew. He held the record for most free throws made in high school. Someone broke his record so the school is having a ceremony in his honor. Bev attends while donning a hat that is quite grandiose in nature (must be seen to be believed).

The real Murray’s high school basketball picture concludes the episode and the season on a very high note. Murray passed away in 2008 and Adam has described one of the joys in doing the show is that he “gets to resurrect [his] dad every week” which is an amazing thing to say and a wonderful way to close out Season One.

Stay tuned for Season 2!

You Opened The Door
You Opened The Door

You Opened The Door

Beverly & Adam safety dance and then dress alike (much to Adam’s chagrin) on the way to the school dance. Murray tells Barry that girls have a ‘Mike Schmidt’ in an attempt to explain the birds and the bees.

We’d really like to know what event this picture is from because you’ll see Bev’s “Perfetto” shirt (Italian for ‘perfect’) appear multiple times.

From Beverly: “The sweater was really ugly!!! What was I thinking? I was visiting Adam at camp Echo Lark circa 1980’s- he just revisited this camp last weekend for camp/LA friend’s bachelor party. His friend is a movie director, & they’ve known each other since they both went to camp when they were 10. Adam’s friends are forever.”

Muscles Mirsky
Muscles Mirsky

Muscles Mirsky

Adam’s cadre of friends grows even larger now that we are introduced to Emmy ‘Muscles’ Misrky. Barry almost ruins things when he tells Adam that men & women can’t be friends. A timely viewing of When Harry Met Sally further gums up the works.

In the photo Adam & Emmy are platonically painting each other with glue or something. Eat your hearts out Christian Grey & Dakota Johnson

Goldbergs Never Say Die
Goldbergs Never Say Die

Goldbergs Never Say Die

Witness the rise of Dave Kim! As we have stated before, this was the episode that sent our Goldnerd-dom into the stratosphere. Barry & Erica play a prank on Adam sending him into a Goonies frenzy that ultimately pays off when his grandma’s jewelry goes missing.

Dave Kim (yearbook picture above) has grown into a perfect friend/foil for Adam and thankfully this first time was not the last time we ran across this dude.

Lame Gretzky
Lame Gretzky

Lame Gretzky

In case you haven’t noticed, sports aren’t really Adam’s thing. In an attempt to impress Murray he joins the Old York Road squad with less than impressive results. On the flip side Beverly’s attempts to help-then-undermine Erica’s SAT prep winds up plorpf-ing the whole thing.

This picture shows that if they wore hats instead of helmets on the ice, Adam would have been an enforcer that struck fear in the hearts of all who dared to oppose him.

For Your Own Good
For Your Own Good

For Your Own Good

The title comes from the war between Murray & Beverly in which they take away essential items from one another in the interest of ‘bettering’ them. It doesn’t work. We are also introduced to Nitrous and his bargaining skills. Adam, on the other hand, is having trouble on the bus (courtesy of JC Spink bullying him and calling him ‘Goldnerd’) and enlists Barry’s help. When Barry lets the power go to his head, Adam has to decide if it was worth it.

Eric is pictured while putting Adam in a headlock. Family clearly beats bullies every time, but sometimes just barely.

Part 4 will bring us to the end of Season 1!

‘Who’s Got The Look?’ Part 2

We’re back with Part 2 in our series exploring the stories behind the “vanity cards” at the end of each episode. For reasons still unknown, we started with 8 episodes in Part 1. From here on out you get the goods in chunks of five!

Stop Arguing & Start Thanking
Stop Arguing & Start Thanking

Stop Arguing and Start Thanking

This was our first time seeing Uncle Marvin, ‘his’ DeLorean, and Lotions of the Oceans. We hope the annual Thanksgiving episode always includes a visit from Marvin because he brings such strong reactions from each member of the family. We were also introduced to America’s 17th favorite pastime – BallBall (click here for rules).

Beverly & Adam certainly seemed dressed up in the picture above so it could definitely be a holiday gathering. Adam appears to be three sheets to the wind on his 2nd round of Perrier

From Beverly: “This is at least 32 years ago. Adam looks goofy, and I look like I’m chewing food -mushy mouth .But we were having snuggles time”

Shopping

‘Barry luck’ is not exactly all it’s cracked up to be after he finds out Pops has been lying to him about his winnings at the track. Getting mustard on a ketchup-colored shirt, and ketchup on a mustard-colored shirt, don’t help matters either. Erica responsibly gets a job at Gimbel’s and Bev irresponsibly takes advantage of the family discount, putting the two at odds. Murray steps in to help with reconciliation only after he is forced to eat an apple for dinner. This won’t be the last time Erica & Beverly square off!

In the photo Bev plants a kiss on Barry’s mildy-disgusted face. Doesn’t anyone love the huggies & snuggies? Also, let us know if you can identify the shirt he’s wearing.

From Beverly: “Barry looks like I’m torturing him with a kiss / never loved mom kisses. To this day I’m only allowed to kiss the top of his head”

Kara-te
Kara-te

Kara-Te

All plots converge at the school’s talent show. We find out that Erica (Hayley Orrantia) can sing, that Adam will do anything to help his brother save face, & Murray puts on ‘Mom Goggles’ for the first time to proclaim how proud he is of his kids.

In the photo Barry attempts to cobra strike the camera but thankfully the photographer is a safe distance away.

From Adam: “You guys were dead on with all these photos Barry doing karate, my mom and me at Thanksgiving… and of course more Bev snuggies!”

You're Under Foot
You’re Under Foot

You’re Under Foot

Beverly pushes Murray to get Pops back into the furniture store (so he can be out of her hair). Albert tries to run things the old way and Vic just encourages him! Meanwhile Adam & Dana are getting closer and it’s freaking them both out. When he goes to Erica & Barry for advice they convince him to grow up and get rid of his toys, with predictably disastrous and heavily Bev-involved results.

Adam is pictured here with a prized Voltron gift. We have it on good authority that he may still be keeping just a few toys around from his childhood.

The Other Smother
The Other Smother

The Other Smother

At the college fair Barry is amazed that they’ve figured out how to get a school on an island. Beverly is concerned that he is underachieving when compared to Michael Rubenstone. Even worse, she fears that *she’s* underachieving when compared to Mrs. Rubenstone’s smothering skills and total control over her son’s life!

This picture shows Adam ready to attend Rushmore and save Latin! Looks like Bev is holding a diploma or notebook or something. And that hair…!

From Beverly: “Picture taken at Barry’s high school graduation 27 years ago”

Part 3 next week!

‘Who’s Got The Look?’ Part 1

Welcome to the first installment of all things Roxette!

Kidding, of course!

In this series of posts we will be looking at the final images displayed in each episode of The Goldbergs and breaking them down for you.

S01E01
Pilot Episode – The Circle of Driving

Pilot Episode – The Circle of Driving

This episode is what introduced us to the loveable loud family that is The Goldbergs! This picture is a popular one you can find around the internet that features a young Adam with all of his Transformers. Or Gobots. Or both. He puts on a pretty tough face for someone in a Ghostbusters ringer and short shorts.

From Adam: “Pic 1 is actually the same one I used for Breaking In every episode. Kind of a bridge into my new ABC show. Those are Transformers, Gobots, Voltron and some Japanese imports bought from the toy store in Jenkintown. This pic was taken in pops’ pad in Florida.”

S01E02
Daddy Daughter Day

Daddy Daughter Day

Mostly remembered for the infamous Bev roller-skating scene (masterfully done by Wendi McLendon-Covey) this also featured the first mention of Erica’s best friend, and bad influence, Lainey! The picture above is the real Murray in what we think may be an early prototype of Mr. Chair and seated next to him in a mini version is Adam (or possibly Barry). As Erica was/is not a real Goldberg, finding a daddy/daughter picture with Murray proved to be quite difficult.

From Adam: “That is me and my dad. This was indeed his first chair I bet this is from 1980. He upgraded to Mr. Chair in the mid 80s.”

S01E03
Mini Murray

Mini Murray

Our first look at the furniture store (Ottoman Empire) and Vic (Cedric Yarbrough) also brought us into Barry’s athletic world. He wants a shoe that can “literally defy the law of gravity” – the Reebok Pump. The real Barry is almost certainly pictured there, slam-dunking what appears to be a small Nerf-style ball.

From Adam: “Home video of a dunk. I think it’s Barry can’t remember.”

Our first peek at Beverly’s matchmaking skills happens here, as well as Barry & Adam bonding over a scrambled TV channel. This picture is the first of many where Beverly dotes on Adam and he pretends to not like it.

From Adam: “Pretends not to like it? I was in 8th grade. I did not like the snuggles!

The Ring

The Ring

The truth is revealed about Beverly’s wedding ring, forcing a battle of wills (not the first or the last) between she & Murray. This is the first time we meet Dana and begin to root for young love. The wedding photo is surely Murray & Bev but without faces, how are we to know?

From Adam: “This is a photo of Murray and Bev. The only time I ever saw them kiss was in this photo. Hence that episode is the only time we will ever see them kiss.

Who Are You Going To Telephone?

Who Are You Going To Telephone?

It’s Halloween and Adam is torn between dressing up and having fun with Pops or hanging out with the ‘cool’ kids and getting in trouble. In the end Adam & Pops dress up as the Ghostbusters and have a great time. We also meet Barry’s crush – Lexy Bloom. We have no idea which kids are in the picture, but cannot stop laughing at Murray as a mustachioed gypsy of some sort. And who/what is Beverly supposed to be?

From Adam: “That is Bev, Murray me and Barry at a family Halloween party.

Call Me When You Get There

Call Me When You Get There

Barry ignores Bev’s warning and is enticed by Erica to leave the green zone and attend a party in the woods where the nearest payphone is out of order. Murray tracks down Barry who ends up face down in a ditch. This picture provides proof that the real Murray just didn’t like to wear many clothes after a long day’s work.

From Adam: “My dad is chillin in his underpants during dinner.

The Kremps

The Kremps

Future best friends – Adam Goldberg & Chad Kremp – meet for the first time. Their families meet as well and things do not go quite as planned, but everyone ends up becoming great friends (except Erica & Drew, but we’ll save that for later). Looks like Adam & Chad are pictured here either about to get into mischief or have just come back from some. If you want the REAL backstory of the Kremps & The Goldbergs then look no further than our interview with Chad Kremp on a special episode of The Goldnerds Podcast (click here)

From Adam: “That is me and Chad Kremp. Not sure why I tucked my shirt into my shorts. He’s still my best bud to this day and I’m the best man at his wedding coming up!

Part 2 is coming next week!
